Farm-Fresh Brews & Mountain Views
Head out to Lovingston, just a few miles south of the main 151 brewery trail, to experience one of central Virginia's most truly hand-crafted brewing experiences. Wood Ridge is the epitome of the hyper-local: its surrounding farmland supplies both grain and water for the delicious brews. The road leading up to the brewery is winding, and the timber-framed tasting room is made of trees felled on the very same spot. Locals love this laid-back location, which seems to cater directly to the community with nightly events such as weekly cornhole tournaments and Nascar viewing. Additionally, there is a driving range for golf enthusiasts and a fire truck for the kids to climb on! Check the calendar on their website for musical events and other happenings, and keep it casual.
Drinks
For as many breweries exist on the 151 trail, few boast hearty stouts on the menu. Not only does Wood Ridge offer a stout, but it's a sublime, chocolatey brew that will be as pleasant in December as it is in July. Traditional offerings are available too, in the form of Golden Grains, Wood Ridge Pale Ale, and Hop Notch IPA. Note that some releases are small batch and seasonal. Pints are reasonable at $5-8.
Menu
The menu is affordable and standard American pub fare. Grab a burger ($12), BLT ($7), a dozen wings ($22), or a hot dog for the kids ($3), and settle down at an outdoor table to enjoy the sunset and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains!
Pros
Stunning views, great beer, outdoor events
Cons
Off the beaten path, rustic and casual
Alternatives
Blue Mountain Brewery, Brewing Tree, Blue Toad Hard Cider
