Craft Beer Paradise in the Heart of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains
Starr Hill Brewery has long been Charlottesville's most recognized brewery. Founded in 1999, the original brewery doubled as a midsize music hall. In 2005, production moved to a more prominent location in Crozet, where you can now find a rotating selection of 24 beers on tap. Your friends with mellow taste buds will be delighted to know that there is an ample selection of stout, lager, and other non-IPA brews. Weekend tours of the facility are available upon request. This is where to take large groups before a game, catch a brew after dinner, or hike in Crozet. If you're in Charlottesville proper, you can experience Starr Hill at virtually every establishment that serves alcohol, notably at their second location in the Dairy Market on Grady Ave.
Drinks
Dependably awesome; that's the summation of Starr Hill's tried-and-true brews. While Stuarr Hill produces on a large scale, nothing has been lost in terms of richness of flavor or consistent product. Each newly released beer is a stand-out. Given this habit of making solid, excellent brews, it's easy to see why this business has prospered for over two decades. Old standards of the brewery are Northern Lights IPA and The Love. This wheat beer achieves light sweetness without sugary residue. More recently, they released a Fruited Golden-Style Belgian called Tripel Note, which stands up to traditional Belgian brews like Leffe but with more interesting flavors.
If you have yet to try many of Starr Hill's beers, try a curated flight. Each flight has a piece of paper and a pencil for taking notes and rating your favorites. Try the Traditional flight ($12) or one of the curated flights, such as the Box of Chocolates stout sampler ($14).
