Craft Beer and Mountain Melodies
Located in Crozet, Pro Re Nata is part brewery, bar, and music venue. If you recognize some nods to medical terminology, you’re not wrong. Founder Dr. John Schoeb is a doctor turned local brew legend. Since its inception in 2015, the venue has become a go-to spot for locals and UVA students looking to get just a little outside of town for some relaxation. With two music stages and no shortage of outdoor seating, this is a family-friendly spot with reliable service and excellent pizza. Check their online calendar for upcoming musical events! Aside from its strong flagship brews, PRN offers seasonal small batches, cider, canned cocktails, and local wine.
Drinks
PRN has cycled through a handful of brewmasters in its time, but hometown boy David Steeves is here to stay. He’s credited with creating some excellent seasonal brews, such as the Malko stout and Spoonful of Medicine Blood Orange Sour. (These guys can’t quit with the medical allusions!)
Five flagship brews represent the local appetite for quality pilsner, lager, and, of course, IPA. Be sure to try the Tapped Out Pilsner, a Czech-style brew that has won top prizes in beer competitions. For the hoppier crowd, Hazy Skyline is a delight. With the slight fruitiness that becomes a hazy IPA, you’ll taste a hint of blueberry and the tang of Bru-1 hops.
Menu
Dino’s Pizza and Grill food truck brings an excellent array of pub food to Pro Re Nata. You can order ahead of time online or place an order right at their window onsite. Wings, salads, wraps, pretzels, soda, and delicious pizza are on the menu. Recommended are the 10” pizzas ($10-14); their Margherita is excellent. Order a chicken quesadilla ($12) or the pretzel and cheese ($10) for the kids.
Pros
Environmentally conscious, relaxed, and family-friendly, great food
Cons
Industrial vibe, slim landscaping
Alternatives
Starr Hill Brewery, Brewing Tree, Blue Mountain Brewery
