A Mountain Oasis: Where Virginia's Finest Grapes Meet Southern Hospitality
Since the early 90s, White Hall Vineyards has won hearts and numerous national awards for its truly exceptional wine. Their secret? Focusing on perfecting a few quality wines over large quantities or endless varieties. Their philosophy, "wonderful wines are made from the careful handling of great fruit," directs their grapes' farming, processing, and aging. White Hall is one of the wineries that put Virginia on the map for wine-making three decades ago; like their product, they've only improved with age.
This winery is a joy to visit, 800 feet above sea level, and has a stunning view of the mountains. White Hall Vineyards is the perfect setting for a get-together with friends. Plan for an early afternoon picnic and enjoy the wide-open vista shaded by a backdrop of mature oaks. Kids and dogs are welcome. While this winery has plenty of grounds to explore, you'll want to call ahead if your party is larger than ten.
Drinks
Flights represent four pillars of White Hall's offerings and are reasonably priced at $10. Leave room for your taste buds for more, as you'll likely fall in love with at least one wine along the way.
An early champion of the Viognier grape, White Hall has been refining its amazing Viognier since the early 2000s. At $24, this fruit-forward bottle is the perfect standalone wine.
The sumptuous 2019 Petit Verdot ($22) brings plum and smoke to the palate without overloading. It is a versatile wine appropriate for tasting as much as pairing with a meal.
Do you ever wish you could drink honeysuckle on a hot July afternoon? The 2021 Gewurtztraminer ($24) magically puts that warm wave of flora on a crisp pressing that will become your summer favorite.
