Handcrafted Pies made with Fresh, Local Ingredients in a Cozy, Historic Setting
As you approach the crossroads of downtown Crozet, you’ll notice a charming row of storefronts, the most prominent of which sports the title “Crozet Pizza” in a bold western font. A staple for Crozet residents since 1977, this critically acclaimed pizzeria is also a family business. Slide into the well-worn wooden booths and get ready to enjoy some award-winning pizza (National Geographic and Fodor’s have referred to it as the best pizza in the world, or at least the USA, respectively).
Drinks
Local beers, cocktails, a variety of whiskies, and imported wines are all up for grabs. One Crozet Pizza t-shirt reads, “Whiskey is our wine.” With 16 available varieties, the selection does not disappoint. If you’re a classic “pizza+beer=happiness” person, go for a NorthCoast Scrimshaw Pilsner or a Miller Lite; each is a perfect light accompaniment to the bold pizza flavors about to light up your taste buds.
Menu
When Crozet Pizza opened, founder Bob Crum made every pie to order. The pizza menu sports the heading “This is What You Came For.” Small pizzas are 12”, and large pizzas measure just 16”. If you are too ravenous to wait for your pie, there’s a smattering of appetizers (we recommend the garlic knots) to choose from.
But really, how is the pizza, you ask?
It’s scrumptious. Pizza aficionados will adore this hand-made crust begun at sunrise the same day; local food enthusiasts will be delighted at the freshness of the local produce toppings, and meatatarians will drool over the sausage and excellent quality of the ground beef on the menu. The love and care for each meal is evident in these hand-crafted pies.
There are an impressive number of vegetarian options, from the Buddhist ($23/27) to the Pacifica ($20/24).
Consider the No Sprout About It ($21/25) with Brussels sprouts and bacon for an original and ultra-savory pie. Of course, you may choose a plain pie or create your own. There are so many options here!
In addition to pizza and calzones, the menu features 13 salads and something truly unique: the “pizza salad .” Pizza salad, in case you missed it, is the answer to the age-old conundrum of desiring carbs but needing greens. The Kaleapalooza ($13) is a gorgeous kale Caesar atop CP’s original crust.
Burgers and club sandwiches, named after the owners’ favorite rock’n’roll music venues, round out this broad menu.
