Experience the passion and craftsmanship behind every bottle at Cardinal Point.
Cardinal Point is a small, family-run winery in the foothills of Afton, located just a hop away from Route 151 on Batesville Road. In addition to tours and tastings, Cardinal Point hosts local music every Sunday from 2–5 PM. Various events throughout the year draw crowds to the outdoor deck and peaceful lawn, such as the Wine Lovers 5K in February and an Oyster Festival in November. This is a great spot to let the kids run around and play while grownups kick back and enjoy wine. You may run into Tim Gorman during your visit to Cardinal Point. When you do, ask him anything about viticulture - Tim has grown grapes for local producers and earned degrees in horticulture. He is the sole winemaker on his family-run farm.
Drinks
The wines at Cardinal Point represent solid Virginia grapes in a traditional offering, with the addition of several of Tim’s experiments, such as the unusual 2021 Hopped Chardonnay ($19). Sidle up to the bar in the tasting room for a glass of Clay Hill Cab Franc ($40) or Nouveau Red blend ($19). Notable bottles for warmer days are the 2021 Green ($22) or the 2022 Riesling ($18).

Snacks such as crackers, cheese, and nuts can be purchased in the tasting room. You can also bring your own food for outdoor consumption.
