From Soil to Bottle, Loving Cup's Dedication to Organic Wine Shines Through.
Loving Cup Vineyard stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. This boutique winery has carved out a unique niche in the competitive world of viticulture, offering wine enthusiasts a taste of the future while honoring the timeless art of winemaking. At the core of Loving Cup's philosophy lies an unwavering commitment to organic practices. The vineyard's lush rows of vines are nurtured without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, allowing the true essence of the terroir to shine through in every bottle. This dedication to sustainability extends beyond the vines, encompassing every aspect of the winemaking process.
"USDA Certified Organic" is a label that requires time, passion, and investment to achieve. For viticulturists in the USA, risking disease and weather by committing to organic farming is very rare. However, Loving Cup has done just that. While they may lack hip branding, they more than makeup for it with their high-quality organic wine. Owner Karl Hambsch grew up on the 150-acre estate and has poured his heart and soul into it since 2007. This winery stands out from others in the type of grapes it cultivates and its steadfast environmental practices. A must-see."
Drinks
You won't find as many traditional Virginia wines here because the vineyard's organic methods rely on naturally disease-resistant grapes. Cayuga, Marquette, and St. Pepin are grapes you won't find in any other winery in the Monticello AVA.
The 2021 Cayuga White ($26) is a popular choice, with its crisp minerality and note of sweet pear. An offering for the "wine nerd" is the 2021 Tannic White ($28). It is made in orange, meaning it's been partially fermented with skins on the grape. Grape skins hold tannins, also found in red wine and black tea. These tannins must be delicately handled to provide body and structure without becoming bitter. Loving Cup did it right; get a bottle before this "experiment" disappears!
